The Lakeshore Chinooks continue to take a look at all the Chinooks alumni who have gone on to be drafted and work their way up the minor league system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ty Young is from Coatesville, Pennsylvania and played college baseball at the University of Louisville. He joined the Chinooks inaugural roster in 2012 as a sophomore. Young was the Chinooks third basemen at the beginning of the season playing in 25 games before having to call it a season due to injury. During his time with Lakeshore, Ty collected 28 hits, 21 runs, 2 HR’s, and 16 RBI’s. After playing in 25 games, he ended up with a .295 batting average.<\/span><\/div>\n

Young would go on to play another season with the University of Louisville before being selected in the MLB Draft this past June. Ty was selected in the 7th<\/sup> round (218th<\/sup> overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays. He was immediately assigned to the Hudson Valley Renegades. The Renegades belong to the New York-Penn League, a class A short-season league.<\/span><\/div>\n

Ty Young had the opportunity to play in a majority of Hudson Valley’s games during the 2013 season. Young ended the season with a .217 batting average and an on-base percentage of .310. His final line offensively consisted of 48 hits, 26 runs, 2 HR’s, and 22 RBI’s.<\/span><\/div>\n

Although his first season may not have gone as well as a first year minor leaguer may have hoped for, Young still has a bright future in the Rays organization and the opportunity to play in front of the Tampa Bay fan base at Tropicana Field.<\/span><\/div>\n

The Lakeshore Chinooks are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized summer collegiate baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including MLB All-Stars Max Scherzer (DET), Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYY), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
