ROCKFORD, Ill.- Clinching a spot in the NWL playoffs the day prior, the Lakeshore Chinooks traveled to Rockford to face the Rivets for the last game of the 2026 regular season on Saturday, August 8. Stable pitching and a six-run seventh inning helped the Chinooks cruise to a 11-5 win.<\/p>\n
With the win, the Chinooks finished the season with a 43-27 record. Their 43 wins are the third most in club history for a single season.<\/p>\n
Before their big seventh inning, the Chinooks got on the board first when Jack Counsell hit a RBI single in the opening inning. Counsell’s base hit was one of 12 of the game for the Chinooks. Taking the mound for the first time this summer for the Chinooks, David Vanic began his start with early run support.<\/p>\n
Vanic got off to a strong start, facing the minimum through the first two innings. Still pitching with the lead in the third, Vanic navigated traffic on the bases, stranding the bases loaded to keep the Rivets scoreless.<\/p>\n
The only blemish on Vanic’s line came in the fifth, when his only earned run allowed came on a wild pitch from reliever Cole Payne who came in for Vanic. With the score tied for the first time in the contest, the Chinooks responded by scoring nine unanswered runs in innings 6-7.<\/p>\n
Collecting just three hits during this stretch, the Chinooks relied on defensive misplays, with the Rivets committing two errors. Trailing big through seven innings, despite taking the loss the Rivets battled by scoring four runs in the last two innings.<\/p>\n
Ending the regular season on high note, the Chinooks’ offense was highlighted by multi-hit and RBI days from Jack Counsell and Casey Robinson.<\/p>\n
Now shifting their attention to the playoffs, the Chinooks open the postseason on the road against Madison on Sunday, August 9 to begin their best of three quarterfinal matchup with the Mallards.<\/p>\n
Since the Chinooks finished with the better overall record between the two teams, they will host game two and a potential game three at Moonlight Graham Field.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
