The Chinooks were swept by the Woodchucks and defeated 6-5.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOffensively, the team was led by third baseman <strong>Brant Valach <\/strong>(Eastern Illinois). The second-year Chinooks player went 3-4 with two home runs and a single.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Woodchucks struck early in the first. Left fielder Brinn Beck hit a double. He scored on an RBI sac fly by Paul DeJong.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tChinooks starter <strong>Sterling Koerner<\/strong> (Florida Gulf Coast) hit Zak Leighton to start the third. DeJong knocked him in on a fielder&rsquo;s choice. Wisconsin led 2-0.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn the fourth, catcher Zach Arnold singled and advanced to second on a <strong>Jake Noll <\/strong>(Florida Gulf Coast) error. He came home on a Connor Beck putout.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLakeshore took a 4-3 lead in the sixth. <strong>Brett Siddall <\/strong>(Canisius) and <strong>Brant Valach<\/strong> hit back-to-back solo home runs. Wisconsin starter Robby Medel then hit catcher <strong>Zack Bowers <\/strong>(Georgia). Bowers scored on a two-run homer by <strong>Ryan Krill <\/strong>(Michigan State).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWith two outs, Arnold hit a single in the bottom of the inning. Shortstop Ryan Howard hit a two-run shot and the Woodchucks regained the lead, 5-4.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Woodchucks got one insurance run in the seventh. Chinooks reliever <strong>Connor Jones <\/strong>(Georgia) issued a leadoff walk to Zak Leighton. He scored on another base hit by Brinn Beck.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn the ninth, Austin Tribby gave up a solo homer to <strong>Brant Valach<\/strong>. The left-hander struck out the side swinging. Tribby earned his second save of the season as well.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRobby Medel picked up his fourth win for Wisconsin. In six innings, the righty gave up four runs off eight hits.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe right-hander Koerner (4-2) took the loss for the Chinooks. He surrendered five runs (four earned) off six hits.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLakeshore returns home to play the Kalamazoo Growlers on Saturday, August 2. Game one will be at 3:30 p.m. The second contest will start at 6:35 p.m. The Woodchucks will come to Kapco Park to play on Monday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 6.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>The Lakeshore Chinooks are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.
