\n\tMequon, WI – The majority of the Lakeshore Chinooks had Tuesday off as eight of the team's players traveled to Madison to take part in the annual Major League Dreams Showcase. The club got back in action on Wednesday, finishing off a two-game series at Kapco Park with the Battle Creek Bombers. In what became a pitchers' duel, the Chinooks come out victorious by a final score of 2-0. \n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Chinook started the scoring early, plating a run in the bottom of the first. Anthony Massicci <\/strong>(Canisius) led off the inning with a single. He would advance to second on a base hit off the bat of Jake Romano <\/strong>(Miami-Ohio), and then both runners moved up via a stolen base. Massicci then came around to score courtesy of Doug Kraeger <\/strong>(Richmond), who brought him in with a sacrifice fly. \n<\/p>\n \n\tJoe Stoll <\/strong>(Ohio State) was the starter for the Chinooks. It was his first start of the year after he had previously pitched in 18 relief appearances. He certainly was not new to throwing multiple innings, though, as 12 of his 18 outings out of the bullpen went more than an inning.\n<\/p>\n \n\tStoll looked absolutely dominant in his outing. He fired seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks while striking out seven. At one point, he even retired 14 batters in a row. The only time he really saw any trouble came in the seventh, when he let the bases get loaded with no outs. However, Stoll worked out of the jam to keep the shutout intact. \n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Chinooks offense saw their next threat come in the bottom of the sixth. Lucas Raley <\/strong>(Lake Erie College) smacked a one-out single, making history in the process as that was good for his 78th hit of the year, the most ever by a Chinook in a single season. Doug Kraeger <\/strong>(Richmond) followed up with a double off the left-center field wall, giving the club runners on second and third with one out. Raley was thrown out at home plate, however, when Colby Fitch <\/strong>(Louisville) grounded to second. The team did manage to plate a run when Fitch was caught in a rundown on a pickoff move in which everyone ended up safe, allowing Kraeger to score and Fitch to advance to second.\n<\/p>\n \n\tJack Landwehr<\/strong> (Illinois State) relieved Stoll in the eighth inning. He held the Battle Creek offense scoreless over the final two innings to complete the shutout and earn the save in the process. \n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Chinooks will now go on the road to Wausau for a two-game series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. \n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players.
