\n\tMequon, WI- The Lakeshore Chinooks (8-12) lost to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, 12-5, on a Sunday afternoon game on Father’s Day.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Dock Spiders were the first team to crack the scoreboard in the game, getting a run in the top of the 1st<\/sup> on a Nick Fortes RBI groundout, scoring AJ Lewis after he led off the game with a single.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Chinooks would take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd<\/sup> thanks to a Daniel DeSimone (Oklahoma State) 2-run double, driving in Rylan Thomas (Central Florida) and Jacob Richardson (Southern Arkansas) after the two Lakeshore hitters both walked to start off the inning.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Spiders would take back the lead in the top of the 4th<\/sup> after Chris Cornelius launched a 2-run homer well over the right field fence, scoring Joe Breaux and giving Fond du Lac the 3-2 advantage.\n<\/p>\n \n\tLakeshore retaliated again in the bottom of the 4th<\/sup> inning, scoring 2 runs and taking the 4-3 lead. The scoring started when Nick Cheema (Arizona State) hit a grounder up the middle. The Spiders got the force out at 2nd<\/sup>, but the Spiders attempted to turn a double play, and an errant throw from Fond du Lac shortstop, Eric Gilgenbach, allowed TJ Raguse (Baylor) to score, tying the game at 3. Cheema then came around to score on a Matt Burch RBI infield single, giving Lakeshore the 4-3 lead.\n<\/p>\n \n\tSpiders’ leadoff hitter, AJ Lewis, led off the 5th<\/sup> with a double that just barely stayed fair down the right field line. After the double, Nick Fortes knocked in Lewis on an RBI single, tying the game at 4.\n<\/p>\n \n\tFond du Lac regained the lead in the top of the 6th<\/sup>, breaking out for 3 runs to take the 7-4 lead. Chris Cornelius hit a dribbler back to Chinooks’ pitcher, Peter Bovenzi (Richmond), but Bovenzi threw it over Daniel DeSimone’s head at 1st<\/sup> base. On the play, Joe Breux, who walked and later advanced to 3rd<\/sup>, scored and gave the Spiders a 5-4 lead. Collin Ridout then hit a rocket off the center field fence, scoring Cornelius. Nick Fortes later singled to Chinooks’ shortstop, Matt Burch, but the ball was thrown away in an attempt to get the out at 1st<\/sup> base. The error allowed Ridout to come around and score, pushing the Fond du Lac lead to 3.\n<\/p>\n \n\tLakeshore cut into Fond du Lac’s lead in the bottom half of the 7th<\/sup>, starting with a Matthew Mika (Central Florida) infield single. Mika later came around and scored on an RBI single from Rylan Thomas, and the Chinooks trailed by just 2 runs.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Spiders started to pull away in the top of the 8th<\/sup>. Nick Campe (Olivet Nazarene) came on in relief for Lakeshore and loaded the bases with Eric Gilgenbach due up for the Spiders. Gilgenbach walked and scored Carson Bartels after he led off the inning with a walk.\n<\/p>\n \n\tAlex McIntosh (UW-Milwaukee) was then called upon out of the bullpen, but came in and threw four straight balls, walking Joe Breaux and scoring AJ Lewis after Lewis was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. The Spiders added two runs in total and led 9-5 after 8 innings.\n<\/p>\n \n\tFond du Lac kept pouring it on in the top of the 9th<\/sup>, as Luke Mangieri plated two more runs on a triple down the right field line, scoring AJ Lewis and Collin Ridout. The Spiders tacked on another run on a Nick Fortes sacrifice fly, bringing home Mangieri and extending the lead to 7. Mike Pascoe came in to close out the game for Fond du Lac, retiring the Chinooks without allowing any runs, securing a 12-5 Spiders’ victory.\n<\/p>\n \n\tChinooks’ slugger Daniel DeSimone had an impressive 3-4 day at the plate, driving in 2 of Lakeshore’s 5 runs.\n<\/p>\n \n\tRylan Thomas, playing in his first home game for the Chinooks, went 1-3 with an RBI, run, and 2 walks. Thomas said after the game, “It was awesome. This is a really good atmosphere to play baseball. It’s tough to come out and lose your first game at home, but I had a good time and I like this area a lot, it’s fun.”\n<\/p>\n \n\tThomas also enjoyed the opportunity to play the game he loves in front of his dad on Father’s Day. “It’s just cool to know that my dad was able to come out and be at the game today.”\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Lakeshore Chinooks (8-12) take on the Kenosha Kingfish on Tuesday, as the Chinooks and Kingfish will play one game at Kapco and one game in Kenosha as part of a day-night doubleheader.\n<\/p>\n
