Fond Du Lac, WI- The Chinooks traveled to Fond Du Lac to take on the reigning Northwoods League Champions, the Dock Spiders. After a two-game split with the Green Bay Booyah, it seemed like the Chinooks had found some sort of momentum to work with. It may not show in the record or box score, but the Chinooks have been taking some steps forward.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Parker Coyne would be called upon to take on the starting assignment for game number one. Coyne\u2019s ERA at the start of the game stood at 4.50 and he had a record of 0-1. He has worked 15.2 innings and has recorded 15 strikeouts, that includes today\u2019s action. He is another young pitcher out of South Carolina gaining valuable experience every time he goes to work on the mound.<\/p>\n

The Chinooks would fall behind early, as the Dock Spiders would cross the plate twice in the bottom of the first. Playing from behind has become sort of a force of habit for the Chinooks this season. They have won games playing from behind, but you can\u2019t do that all season.<\/p>\n

The Chinooks would threaten in their half of the second inning, but they would fail to capitalize. Coyne would work a quick second inning after giving up two runs in the previous inning and the Dock Spiders were turned away. Chinook, Jake Malec, would hit a single and the third inning was off to a good start. To try and get a run back, the Chinooks would get aggressive. Malec would be thrown out trying to steal second. \u00a0Coyne would retire the side in the third.<\/p>\n

Then, in the fourth inning is where the Chinooks would get a run back.\u00a0 Izaya Fullard and Dalton Wingo would get on base to help set the table for the Chinooks. A wild pitch and a stolen base would allow the two runners to advance. Another wild pitch would allow Fullard to score and the Chinooks were down one run.<\/p>\n

Coyne would work quickly once again, and it looked like Coyne had found the secret to shutting down the reigning champions. That would not be the case. In the following innings, the Dock Spiders would push across two more runs. The Lakeshore offense would not be able to muster any more runs. The rest of the afternoon would be very quiet for the Chinooks.<\/p>\n

Luke Sommerfeld worked relief in today\u2019s game, allowing one run but striking out two batters. It was a quality relief appearance by Sommerfeld. Parker Coyne\u2019s ERA now stands at 4.60 with a record of 0-2 and Sommerfeld\u2019s ERA sits at 3.86.<\/p>\n

With the Chinooks still struggling to put wins in the win column, they are taking steps forward every game. It may not show in the box score, but this team is gaining experience and they will be looking to make a late run for a playoff spot.<\/p>\n
