MLB DEBUT: Peter Alonso (Mallards Alum-2014)

Former Madison Mallard Peter Alonso, made his Major League debut for the New York Mets on Thursday, March 28, 2019. Alonso is the 208th former Northwoods League player, and the 15th Mallards alum to see playing time in the big leagues.

Alonso, who played collegiately at the University of Florida, played for the Madison Mallards in 2014. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 2nd round of the 2016 MLB draft.

In 59 games with the Mallards during the 2014 regular season, Alonso hit .354 with 18 home runs, five doubles and 53 RBI. He also stole two bases and walked 20 times. In the Northwoods League All-Star Game he went one for three with a three-run home run.

Alonso began his minor league career in 2016 with the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Short-Season A New York-Penn League. Over 30 games he hit .321 with five home runs, 12 doubles and 21 RBI.

Alonso started the 2017 season with the St. Lucie Mets of the Hi-A Florida State League. After 82 games he was promoted to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies of the AA Eastern League to finish the season. He would end the year with a combined .289 average with 18 home runs, 27 doubles and 63 RBI. He also walked 27 times and stole three bases.

For the 2018 season, Alonso started the year in Binghamton and was then promoted to the Las Vegas 51s of the AAA Pacific Coast League. Over 132 games he hit .285 with 36 home runs, 31 doubles and 119 RBI.

In his Major League debut against the Washington Nationals, Alonso started the game at first base. He would go 0 for 3 facing former La Crosse Logger Max Scherzer before singling in his fourth at bat off of Nationals reliever Justin Miller.
