Madison, Wis. \u2013 \u00a0The Madison Mallards (1-5, 29-13) rolled to a 3-0 win over the Battle Creek Bombers (4-2, 20-21) on Monday afternoon in Battle Creek. The Mallards were guided to the victory by starting pitcher Brian Morrell <\/strong>(Notre Dame) and relievers Leon Hunter <\/strong>(North Carolina A&T) and Nicholes Morales <\/strong>(San Jose State). The trio combined to hold the Bombers to only five hits and only issued four walks.<\/p>\n

While Mallards starter Brian Morrell was cruising through the game\u2019s early innings, the Madison offense opened the scoring with a two-run double by Trevor Boone<\/strong>(Oklahoma State) in the top of the fifth. Morrell would follow by working a scoreless bottom of the frame, finalizing his day with 5.0 innings pitched and only one hit allowed.<\/p>\n

In the bottom of the seventh, Leon Hunter worked out of a jam to preserve the 2-0 Madison advantage. With the bases loaded and only one out, Hunter struck out Will Baker then induced a groundout to keep the Bombers off the board. Hunter then gave way to Morales in the eighth and the Mallards held on to the 3-0 win.<\/p>\n
