Madison, WI – April 9, 2012. \u00a0The Mallards have announced the signing of sophomore outfielder Tyler Marincov from the University of North Florida and junior infielder Tom Lally from Central Michigan University.<\/p>\n
Marincov, a 6’2″, 205 pound outfielder from Orlando, Florida will be with the Mallards after his second season with the Ospreys. \u00a0He was drafted in the 48th Round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the Detroit Tigers. \u00a0He declined a professional contract to attend North Florida. \u00a0He has been on fire early in 2012 for the Ospreys hitting .415 with five home runs and 26 RBIs while starting all 25 games. \u00a0In 2011, as a freshman he played in 32 games including 27 starts before missing the final 18 games due to injury. \u00a0He hit .274 with five home runs and 25 RBIs and was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team.<\/p>\n
“Tyler was a very sought after quarterback coming out of high school that chose the baseball route instead,” said Mallards Manager Greg Labbe. \u00a0“He is extremely athletic and strong and those two attributes alone should help him be successful in our league. \u00a0He is gifted enough to play center field for us, but I would expect him to spend most of his time in right field. \u00a0Tyler can drive the ball to all fields and given the dimensions of the ‘Duck Pond’ he could put up some really strong offensive numbers for us this summer.”<\/p>\n
He attended Timber Creek High School where was a Four-Year Letterwinner. \u00a0He led his team to one state semi-final appearance and was named First-Team All-State in 2009. \u00a0He was also named All-District in 2010, All-Area in 2009 and 2010, and was the 6A District 10 Player of the Year in 2010. \u00a0He is majoring in criminal justice at North Florida.<\/p>\n
Lally, a 6’0″, 171 pound infielder from Chicago, Illinois will join the Mallards after his first season with the Chippewas. \u00a0So far in 2012, he is batting .232 with one home run and 10 RBIs while playing in 28 games, including 26 starts. \u00a0He has spent the previous two years at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL. \u00a0He was named First-Team All-Conference in 2011 after hitting .341 with five home runs and 47 RBIs and Second-Team All-Conference in 2010 after hitting .374 with eight home runs and 51 RBIs.<\/p>\n
“Tom is a quick twitch athlete that can play a number of positions for us,” said Labbe. \u00a0“I am counting on him to hold down second base most of the season, but he is more than capable of playing third or even center field. \u00a0He is a top of the order guy that can bunt, drive the ball in the gaps, and steal a base when we need him to. \u00a0He is hard nosed and I expect him to be a leader on this team.”<\/p>\n
Lally went to De La Salle Institute where he earned Chicago Catholic League Honors as a senior in 2009 after hitting .333 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.<\/p>\n
