Phoeniz, AZ – October 18, 2012. \u00a0One Mallards alum is playing in the Arizona Fall League, often a stepping stone to a career in Major League Baseball. \u00a0Right-handed pitcher Dan Burawa (’09) of the New York Yankees organization is hurling for the Scottsdale Scorpions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Burawa was drafted in the 12th Round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft by the Yankees after playing for the Mallards in 2009. Burawa attended St. John’s University. He led the Mallards in pitching appearances with 25 and saves with six while posting a 5.50 ERA and 1-1 record. \u00a0He also struck out 41 batters in just 34.1 innings.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He missed all of the 2012 season with a torn oblique that he suffered during spring training. \u00a0He started the 2011 season with the A Charleston Riverdogs where he made 19 appearances, compiled a 3.63 ERA and recorded 35 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched. \u00a0He was then promoted to the Advanced-A Tampa Yankees. \u00a0He made 20 appearances, and had a 3.66 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched. \u00a0He is expected to open the 2013 season with the AA Trenton Thunder of the Eastern League.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Madison Mallards are members of the 16-team Northwoods League. \u00a0The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate League in North America. \u00a0The Northwoods League will celebrate it’s 20th season in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
