Madison, WI \u2013 June 12, 2012\u00a0Three different Woodchucks pitchers combined to allow no runs and strikeout ten to give the Wisconsin Woodchucks (8-6) a 4-0 win over the Madison Mallards (6-8). The loss was the second time this season that the Mallards had been shutout this season, and the first time they had been swept.<\/p>\n

The Woodchucks got the scoring going in the first inning with an RBI single by left fielder Gage Green (Oklahoma State) that drove in center fielder Brooks Braga (UW-La Crosse) who reached base on a triple. With the Mallards playing in to choke off the run Green was able to hit a hard grounder past second baseman Luis Munoz (Coffeyville CC) to get the Woodchucks ahead 1-0.<\/p>\n

From there the Woodchucks were able to add on in the second inning when first baseman Jacob Jelmini (College of the Canyons) was able to score designated hitter Skyler Ewing (Rice) from third base on a fielders choice.\u00a0 <\/span>With runners on second and third with no outs Jelmini grounded a ball to Mallards shortstop Seth McMullen (Winona State) who decided to take the easy out at first rather than try for the play at the plate, making the score 2-0.<\/p>\n

The Mallards closest attempt at generating offense came in the seventh when they were able to load the bases. A strikeout by third baseman Jose Trevino (Oral Roberts) followed by a groundout to Woodchucks second baseman Brandon Cogswell (Virginia) by designated hitter Jack Livingston (Northwestern) left the bases loaded.<\/p>\n

Woodchucks closer Max Ising (Neosho CC) was able to come out of the bullpen in the ninth and get his second save of the season, striking out the side in his 1.0 inning of relief.<\/p>\n

LaMothe (2-1) was the hard luck loser for the Mallards. Through 6.0 innings on the mound he gave up six hits and two runs while getting nine strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Woodchucks starter Jack Fischer (Wake Forest) got the win in his season debut. The righty kept the Mallards off the scoreboard and allowed two hits and struck out three in 5.0 innings.<\/p>\n

The Mallards returns to the \u201cDuck Pond\u201d on Wednesday June 13th<\/sup> to take on the Bombers That night will be The Payroll Company Police Appreciation Night at the Ballpark featuring Erik Estrada from the hit TV show ChiPs.<\/p>\n
