Wausau, WI \u2014 June 6, 2013. Wisconsin Woodchucks (5-2) first baseman Matt Tellor (Southeast Missouri) got the best of the Madison Mallards (4-4) Thursday night in their 6-5 victory at Athletic Park in a game that featured seven lead changes.<\/p>\n
The 6’5,” 210-pound native of Sarasota, Florida hit two home runs and knocked in all but one of the Woodchucks runs. His three-run blast off of Mallards starter Danny Sullivan (Davenport) put the Woodchucks up 4-3 and his two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh off of Jordan Mills (St. Mary’s) gave them the 6-5 lead that proved to be the difference maker.<\/p>\n
Mallards right fielder Tate Matheny (Missouri State) broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh with an RBI single with two outs that scored Eric Cheray (Missouri State), but Mills\u2014who relieved Sullivan in the fourth\u2014couldn’t finish his outing that was otherwise nearly perfect. He struck out five in his 3.2 innings of work and Tellor’s blast was the only hit he allowed. He settled for the loss and drops to 0-1 on the year.<\/p>\n
Nick Hibbing (Iowa) pitched the final four outs for the Mallards and allowed one hit and struck out one.<\/p>\n
Woodchucks starter Adam Kramer (St. Paul-Concordia) was roughed up by the Mallards and allowed eight hits in just four innings of work, but Henry Weiler (Jefferson County CC) pitched the sixth and seventh innings for the win. Jackson Lowery (Arkansas) allowed just one hit over the last two innings to pick up his second save of the season.<\/p>\n
Four out of the five Mallards runs were scored with two outs. They scored one in the second, fourth and seventh innings while putting up two in the third.<\/span><\/p>\n Matheny led the Mallards by going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored while second baseman Ryan McShane (Madison College) was the only other Mallard to record multiple hits. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.<\/span><\/p>\n Sullivan allowed four runs\u2014all earned\u2014and six hits in three innings. He struck out four and walked just one.<\/span><\/p>\n Taylor Steib (San Joaquin Delta) went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored for the Woodchucks.<\/span><\/p>\n The Mallards return home tomorrow night for a 7:05 pm game against the Woodchucks before beginning a four-game road trip. Tomorrow night is Charter Communications Duck Dynasty Night. Fans will be able to meet Mountain Man from the show! The Madison Duck Call Championships will also be held, so fans are encouraged to bring their duck calls! Potosi Brewery Night will also take place at the “Duck Pond.”<\/span><\/p>\n The Madison Mallards will also induct Madison baseball legend Steve Bennett into their Wall-of-Fame tomorrow during a pre-game ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n The 2013 season is upon us!
