Madison, WI \u2014 June 15, 2013. Luke Meeteer (UW-Milwaukee) had an RBI single and Mike Reuvekamp (California) knocked in another run one batter later in the bottom of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and helped give the Madison Mallards (10-6) a 4-2 victory against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (7-11) Saturday night in yet another rain-shortened contest.<\/p>\n
The win moves the Mallards into first place in the Northwoods League South Division standings, as Lakeshore and La Crosse both lost Saturday night and hold records of 11-7, which is .014 percentage points behind the Mallards winning percentage of 0.625.<\/p>\n
The Mallards were up with one down in the eighth when rain hit Warner Park yet again. The game was delayed for about 20 minutes before the umpires came back to the field and determined the playing field conditions were too poor to continue. The post-game fireworks presented by Budweiser that were originally planned for tonight’s game have been moved to Saturday, August 10th.<\/p>\n
The Mallards got on the board right away against Bullfrogs starter Bryce Bellin (Minnesota State), as Tate Matheny (Missouri State) hit a solo home run with two down in the first.\u00a0Meeteer (UW-Milwaukee) singled to right in the bottom of the second and Bullfrogs right fielder Jack Parenty (Stony Brook) bobbled the ball, allowing Mike Fitzgerald (Indiana State)\u2014who reached on a walk earlier in the inning\u2014to score.<\/span><\/p>\n Left fielder Boomer White (TCU) got the Bullfrogs right back in it in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot off of Mallards starter Jamie Nunn (Appalachian State), who went five innings and allowed only two runs\u2014both earned\u2014on just three hits. He struck out seven batters, all of which came in his first three innings of work.<\/p>\n Bellin went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits and was tagged with the loss and falls to 0-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n Nick Hibbing (Iowa) picked up the win by pitching the seventh and allowing two hits. Hunter May (UNC-Charlotte) picked up his fifth save of the season by pitching a scoreless eighth.<\/p>\n Meeteer led the way offensively for the Mallards by going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Newcomer John LaPrise (Virginia) also racked up a pair of hits down the left field line and finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Fitzgerald also went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk.<\/p>\n White was the lone Bullfrog with multiple hits. He finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.<\/p>\n The Mallards close out their three-game series with the Bullfrogs tomorrow at 3:05 pm at the “Duck Pond” before leaving for a three-game road trip.<\/p>\n The 2013 season is upon us!
