Mequon, Wisconsin \u2014 June 22, 2013. The Madison Mallards (13-9) came back in the ninth inning and forced extras Saturday night against Lakeshore but the game could not be completed because the City of Mequon does not allow an inning to start past 11 pm. The score was tied 3-3 after 16 innings.<\/p>\n
The game will be resumed on July 12th at Lakeshore prior to the 7:05 pm game that is already scheduled for that day.<\/p>\n
Mallards catcher Mike Fitzgerald hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth to force extras. The game would’ve been completed in just over two hours if the Mallards had not scored in the inning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Mallards put together serious threats in the 12th and 13th by loading the bases with two outs in both frames. Chinooks reliever Dan Sayles (Sacramento City) forced a groundout to end each inning.<\/p>\n
The Chinooks nearly ended the game in the 12th inning as well. Chris Manning (Valparaiso) clubbed a double over Drew Weeks’ (North Florida) head in right with a runner on first that would have appeared to end the game, but the ball hopped over the fence for a ground-rule double and forced the runner to remain at third. Mallards reliever Sam Forkert (Marian) then struck out the next batter to end the inning.<\/p>\n
Chinooks starter Joe Greenfield (Eastern Illinois) cruised through the Mallards lineup and allowed no runs on just two hits in six innings. He retired 13 consecutive Mallards at one point.<\/p>\n
It wasn’t until the seventh inning before the Mallards recorded a hit that reached the outfield, as Joe McCarthy (Virginia) doubled down the left field line. John LaPrise (Virginia) knocked him in with a single to right three batters later.<\/p>\n
Ryan Krill (Michigan State) got the Chinooks on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to right field off of Mallards starter Jordan Tabakman (UConn). Brant Valach (Eastern Illinois) hit a two-run single off Tabakman two innings later.<\/p>\n
Tabakman went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out one.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Mallards return to Madison Sunday for the series finale against the Chinooks. First pitch is set for 3:05 pm.<\/p>\n
