Wausau, WI \u2014 July 21, 2013. The Madison Mallards (12-7, 33-19) close out a two-game series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (11-7, 24-28) Sunday at 5:05 pm before the All-Star break begins Monday.<\/p>\n

The Mallards lost a close one in game one Saturday night by a score of 6-4. Woodchucks starter Dan Weigel (Bucknell) had the Mallards lineup off-balance for most of the game and cruised after he allowed two runs in the first inning.<\/p>\n

He scattered seven hits and allowed three runs (all earned) through six innings and struck out four.<\/p>\n

Joe McCarthy (Virginia) hit a sac fly in the fifth to pull the Mallards within one at 4-3 but the Woodchucks struck back an inning later and tallied two more runs.<\/p>\n

Tate Matheny (Missouri State) doubled in the ninth and later came around to score to pull within two but that would be all the Mallards would manage.<\/p>\n

Cam Verbeke (Illinois State) was saddled with the loss and dropped to 5-2. He went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs (all earned) on seven hits.<\/p>\n

Reilly Hovis (North Carolina) will try for another quality start and will be on the hill today for the Mallards. The 6’3″ freshman allowed no runs on just three hits over six innings in his last start on July 15th at La Crosse. He lowered his ERA to 3.21 and improved to 1-1 after the performance.<\/p>\n

Danny Young (Florida) will also look to continue from a strong effort in his last start by starting on the mound for the Woodchucks today. In his last start, he allowed three runs (all earned) on six hits over seven innings in a 5-4 loss to the Lakeshore Chinooks on July 15th. So far in the 2013 season Young is 1-2 with a 4.63 ERA over six starts.<\/p>\n

Look out Weeks!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mallards outfielder Drew Weeks (North Florida) was once far and away the leader in RBIs in the Northwoods League but now has some competition after cooling down as of late. He hasn’t recorded an RBI in his last five games and now is leading the league by just two. Willmar’s Marc Flores (Hawaii) recorded his 44th RBI last night and Woodchucks first baseman Matt Tellor (SE Missouri) pulled within five last night after knocking in three.<\/p>\n

The Mallards will return home on Thursday, July 25th after the All-Star Break for a 7:05 pm game against the Battle Creek Bombers. The ZOOperstars will be providing in-game entertainment.
