Winiarski (MATC) will be the lone Mallards pitcher to represent the team at the NWL
Mid-Season All-Star game on Tuesday, July 21 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

La Crosse, WI – July 14, 2009. The Madison Mallards take to the road for a two-game set Tuesday against the Northwoods League South Division-leading La Crosse Loggers at 7:05 p.m. at Copeland Park. <\/p>\n

The Mallards (6-4) sit two games back of the Loggers (8-2) heading into tonight’s action after being swept on Sunday by the Battle Creek Bombers (6-4) and being idle Monday.<\/p>\n

Madison will start NWL Mid-Season All-Star right-handed pitcher Cody Winiarski (MATC), who is 4-2 with a 1.66 ERA through 48.2 innings over 7 starts. In his last start on July 7 against the Bombers, Winiarski received a no-decision after not allowing a run through six innings while striking out four batters.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the Loggers will counter with left hander Logan Munson (North Carolina) who is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA through 10 innings pitched. Munson’s only start of the year came during his last appearance on July 8, when he threw six scoreless innings while striking out three batters to pick up a victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks.<\/p>\n

Channing turns it on
<\/strong>When Channing arrived on Madison soil prior to the season, expectations couldn’t have been higher for the Dick Howser Award semifinalist given to the nation’s top collegiate baseball player. Not satisfied, he began tinkering with his swing with a new hitting coach and recently stated that he hasn’t really felt comfortable in the batter’s box until the first week of July. His numbers show he’s right; Channing is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with 3 home runs and 6 RBI in his last 10 games. He has also recorded at least one hit in 9 of the last 10 games. Channing is now hitting .275 with a team second-best 6 home runs and 21 RBI on the year.<\/p>\n

Chopping some wood
<\/strong>Mid-Season All-Stars Kurtis Muller (Iowa) and Mark Ginther (Oklahoma State) have enjoyed success against Loggers’ pitching this season, in hitting .417 (5-for-12) with 3 RBI, and .357 (5-for-14) with 2 RBI, respectively.<\/p>\n

League-leading offense
<\/strong>The Mallards continue to lead the league in many offensive categories including, batting average (.265), slugging percentage (.402), hits (398), doubles (85), and home runs (38). A number of individual single-season records should be broken this summer starting with doubles (current mark is 19; Adam McClain has 13); RBI (current mark is 48; Harold Riggins has 40); wins by a pitcher (current mark is 8; Matt Jansen has 5, Winiarski has 4); and starts by a pitcher (current mark is 12; Jansen has 8).<\/p>\n
