Mallards Allow Season-High Hits in Loss<\/b><\/p>\n

Battle Creek slashes 20 hits to complete two-game sweep<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Battle Creek, MI \u2013 Madison was swept in a two-game series in Michigan against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Sunday afternoon from MCCU Park by a final score of 14-10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although allowing one run in the bottom of the 1st, the Mallards offense trucked through the Battle Creek defense in the top of the 2nd with a six-spot. <\/span>Davis Hamilton <\/b>hit his first triple of the season to score the first two Mallards\u2019 runs in the lengthy inning. A second triple in the frame was from catcher <\/span>Josh Caron<\/b> scoring another two runs. The Battle Jacks were able to tie the game in their next two innings at the plate due to <\/span>Charlie Rhee<\/b>\u2019s single that scored two runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The home team had nine hits in the first three innings off Ducks\u2019 starter <\/span>Joel Barker<\/b>. Madison turned to three more arms throughout the game and the bullpen struggled with contact and a handful of walks. <\/span>Drew Erdei <\/b>earned his fourth consecutive losing decision while only allowing one earned run. <\/span>Gauge Lockhart <\/b>and <\/span>Dominic Murgo <\/b>were bombarded with nine hits and six earned runs in the second half of the contest to push Battle Creek in front including a six-run 6th to put the game away. Madison\u2019s pitching staff allowed 20 hits on the day, the most allowed on the season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mallards did show admirable fight in the final three innings at the plate. Caron drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the 7th. After scoring a run on an error in the 8th, Madison scored two in the final inning on a <\/span>Noah Smith <\/b>(2-5, R) single and an <\/span>Estevan Moreno <\/b>fielder\u2019s choice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mallards return home to face the Lakeshore Chinooks at Warner Park for a series that will span over a three-day period due to the Major League Dreams Showcase taking place on Tuesday.
