Madison, WI – June 16, 2008. After two late-inning come-from-behind wins in a doubleheader yesterday, the Mallards are back in action tonight for the series finale against Waterloo. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the “Duck Pond,” and great seats still remain. The Mallards will send right-hander Joe Yermal (Charlotte) to the mound to make his second start of the season. The Mallards are winners of five straight and are 11-5 overall, tied with La Crosse for second in the South Division and three games behind division-leading Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

\nThe Mallards will be home tonight for the last game against Waterloo that was originally scheduled to take place at Waterloo. Waterloo\u2019s field has become unplayable due to recent heavy rains, forcing two series to be shifted to the \u201cDuck Pond.\u201d Waterloo will remain the home team. Fans who bought tickets for Thursday\u2019s rain-out against the Bucks can redeem them at the Mallards Box Office for tickets to tonight\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

Last time out for the Mallards: W 4-3, 5-4 vs. Waterloo, June 15
\nThe Mallards came from behind in the late innings twice to sweep a doubleheader from the Waterloo Bucks. In the first game the Mallards were down to their final out before rallying and scoring three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Russell Harben (South Alabama) singled home Drew Martin (NC State) in game one for the go-ahead run, and the roles were reversed as Martin singled home Harben for the go-ahead run in game two. Kyle Heim (Iowa) earned the win in game one in relief, and Brandon Johnson (Western Carolina) worked three hitless innings out of the bullpen in game two to earn his second win of the season.<\/p>\n

Mallards Musings:
\n-Rob Lyerly (Charlotte) continues his hot hitting since joining the Mallards. In eight games he is hitting .379 (11-29) with a home run, nine RBIs, seven runs scored and an on-base percentage of .455.
\n-Matt Jansen (Purdue) continues to pitch well and make a strong case for mid-season all-star honors. In 20 innings pitched over three starts and a relief appearance he has allowed just two earned runs (0.90 ERA). He is 2-0 on the season, and opponents are hitting just .209 against the left-hander.
\n-The Mallards offense has been patient at the plate to begin the season, drawing 77 walks in 16 games so far. That is tied for second-most in the Northwoods League.
\n-The Mallards pitching staff has been stellar so far and is currently second in the league with a 2.41 ERA.
\n-The basepaths have been friendly to the Mallards so far this season. The team currently has an 81% success rate trying to steal (25-31).
\n-The Mallards will play a their second twin-bill of the season at La Crosse on July 21 to make up for a game that was rained out.<\/p>\n
