For only the third time this year the Madison Mallards failed to score a run. Wausau rode the arm of Jay Buente en route to blanking the Ducks 5-0. The loss was just the fifth in the past 19 games for the Mallards, who fell a game behind the Waterloo Bucks for first place. Mallards starting pitcher Jake Eiler took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in five innings. Eiler has managed to keep the Mallards in ballgames recently, as he is 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA in his last seven starts. <\/p>\n

Wausau put the game away with two late inning runs off newcomer Tony Korson, one of which was unearned. Mike Dury recorded the only extra-base hit for the Mallards with a double, and Doug Beck, Jay Johnson, and Greg Thomson each had singles.<\/p>\n

The Mallards will attempt to avenge their loss Wednesday night in Wausau and try to go 4-2 on the road trip. A crowd will next fill Warner Park on Thursday night as the Mallards will try to gain a game on the Waterloo Bucks at 7:05 PM.
