In all levels of baseball, late season aquisitions are key in making championship runs. Mark Moriarty, the latest addition to the Mallards roster, made his debut Wednesday night a memorable one. The newcomer from St. Scholastica surrendered only two hits in five shutout innings to help the Mallards defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 5-1 and remain only one game behind division leader Waterloo. Shuan Corning, Zach Peterson, and Matt Petty combined to allow only one run over the last four innings, with Petty earning his second save in as many chances.<\/p>\n

The Mallards held a slim 1-0 lead entering the seventh inning when Jared Johnson hit a two run bomb to put the Mallards up 3-0. The home run was Johnson’s second, and second of the road trip, he added a double to go 2-4 on the night and ended the road trip with seven hits in 13 at bats. Greg Thomson added a solo shot for the Mallards, his first of the season. <\/p>\n

After finishing their road trip with a 4-2 mark, the Mallards (28-17 overall, 10-4 second half) return home for four games, including two against first place Waterloo. The first game against the Bucks is tonight at 7:05 PM.
