The College World Series has been narrowed down to four teams, with two Mallards players still alive in the hunt for a championship. Alan Ahmady and Trent Soares of Fresno State have made it to the Final Four, while Nolan Cain of LSU was just eliminated.<\/p>\n

Fresno State has been the Cinderella story of this year\u2019s postseason, becoming the first number four seed to win a regional when they rolled through the Long Beach Regional, defeated Long Beach State and San Diego in the process. From there they went to number three national seed Arizona State and beat them in the Super Regional two games to one to advance to the College World Series. The Bulldogs upset Rice and North Carolina in the first two rounds of the World Series ahead of another matchup with the Tar Heels tonight at 5:00 p.m. (CT). Ahamdy is 4-for-9 in the two World Series wins for the Bulldogs, with five RBIs and three runs scored. He homered in the first game against Rice. Soares had a pinch-hit appearance late against Rice and struck out.<\/p>\n

The LSU Tigers lost to North Carolina in the first round before beating Rice 6-5. They faced North Carolina again, losing for the second time to be eliminated on a ninth-inning grand slam. Cain did not pitch in the World Series.<\/p>\n

Cain is expected to join the Mallards in the coming weeks, and Ahmady and Soares will be in Madison as soon as the College World Series is finished.<\/p>\n
