Northwoods League Mourns the Loss of Umpire Conor McKenzie
\n<\/b>McKenzie had umpired the most games in Northwoods League history<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s Madison Mallards game scheduled for 4:05pm vs. the Wausau Woodchucks has been postponed. The game will be moved to Tuesday, August 1 at 6:05pm. All tickets for today\u2019s game will be good for the August 1st game. If ticket holders cannot attend the August 1st game, they should contact the ticket office to exchange their tickets for any other game, based on availability. Contact the Mallards office at (608) 246-4277 or email info@mallardsbaseball.com with any questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that the Northwoods League announces the passing of umpire Conor McKenzie in a tragic car accident. The league and its entire community are devastated by this loss and extend their deepest condolences to Conor’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.\u00a0 The other two umpires traveling with Conor are in stable condition.<\/span><\/p>\n

McKenzie was a talented and respected umpire, known for his professionalism, dedication, and love for the game. He joined the Northwoods League in 2019 and quickly became an integral part of the umpiring crew, leaving a lasting impact on players, coaches, and fans alike. Conor had worked close to 350 Northwoods League games and was also on the field for each all-star game and postseason during his four previous seasons in the league.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Conor was an exceptional umpire and an even better person,” said Northwoods League Chairman Dick Radatz, Jr. “His dedication to the game was unparalleled, and his loss is deeply felt throughout our league.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Conor’s passion for baseball was evident in every game he officiated. His knowledge of the game and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of all those who worked with him. Conor’s enthusiasm and positive attitude were contagious, creating a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere on the field.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cConor was an amazing man with a heart of gold and a personality to match,\u201d said Northwoods League Umpire Supervisor Larry Rose. \u201cHe had a special zest for life that\u2019s unmatched. He left us today on his way to do what he loved doing more than anything, umpiring a baseball game which he was extraordinarily good at. The Northwoods League lost not just an umpire but a dear member of our family. He will be missed in many, many ways but never forgotten.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The league will honor Conor’s memory with a moment of silence before tomorrow night\u2019s games, as players, coaches, and fans join to pay their respects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The entire Madison Mallards organization sends their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Northwoods League Umpire Conor McKenzie, who tragically passed away en-route to umpiring the Mallards Sunday, July 9th home game. Mallards Manager Donnie Scott remembers McKenzie fondly, after working with him for five years in the NWL.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI got to know Conor extremely well over the course of the past 5 seasons. He did an incredible job calling the games, while keeping the games as fun as possible. He was a true professional and always had the games under control. I always looked forward to him calling our games. I will miss you, Brother! Rest in peace, Conor,\u201d said Mallards Manager Donnie Scott.<\/span><\/p>\n
