As has been the case for the entire season, the Madison Mallards were given a great game by their pitching staff. Tonight, they got just enough hitting and defeated the Mankato Moon Dogs by a score of 3-1.
\nRyan Bennett (1-1) made his second start of the season for the Mallards and was magnificent. He pitched six innings and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out five in picking up his first victory of the season.
\nThe Mallards scored all of their runs in the very first inning. After the first two outs were made, Matt Bose singled and Mike Settle walked to bring up Charlie Babineaux. Like he has all season long, Babineaux came through. He singled down the third base to score Bose. And when the ball then skipped past left fielder Donnell Boyer, Settle came all the way around to score and make the score 2-0. Babineaux ended up on third and came around to score on a pass ball to make it 3-0.
\nThe score stayed that way until the sixth, when the Moon Dogs tallied a run. Boyer led off the inning with a double and eventually came around to score on a single by right fielder Andrew Wishy to make it 3-1.
\nThe Mallards went to the bullpen in the seventh and they held up their end of the bargain. Josh Hansen pitched two solid innings, but was taken out after walking Moon dog second baseman Aaron Olson to open the ninth. As usual, the Mallards made the ninth a nail biter.
\nBill Bernabei came in and promptly walked Wishy to put two men on with nobody out. After a sacrifice moved the runners over however, Bernabei settled down and recorded a strikeout and a popout to end the game and record his second save of the season.
\nJeremy Hall also pitched an excellent game for the Moon Dogs but received a loss for his effort. He pitched six innings and allowed the three runs, though only one was earned, on four hits. His record fell to 1-1 on the season.
\nA crowd of 1,155 enjoyed the beautiful night and watched the Mallards go to 4-5 on the season and record their first winning streak of the season at two games while the Moon Dogs fell to 4-4 on the season. The Mallards go for the sweep of the two-game series tomorrow night against Mankato. Game time is set for 6:05pm.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
