The Mallards (5-2 second-half, 28-13 overall) continued their winning ways Sunday evening, posting their fifth straight victory, a 5-0 win over the Duluth Huskies (3-4, 22-19) to remain tied in first-place in the second-half standings. <\/p>\n

Mid-season All-Star Adam Mills was nearly perfect on the mound, throwing eight innings of shutout ball, while allowing just two hits. Mills struck out eight Huskie batters and improved to 3-1 on the season, lowering his ERA to 1.02, which is currently second lowest in the Northwoods League. Erik Walker continued his dominance within the Northwoods League, extending his streak of scoreless innings pitched to 15 after throwing a scoreless ninth.<\/p>\n

Madison waited until the third inning to get their offense going, taking a 1-0 lead that proved to be all Mills would need. The Mallards added more insurance scoring two runs in both the fifth and eighth innings. <\/p>\n

Second baseman Mike Rohde and third baseman Kelly Sweppenhiser paced the Mallards offensively collecting two hits apiece. Rohde finished the night two-for-three with an RBI and Sweppenhiser was two-for-four with a run and an RBI. Catcher Kris Rochelle contributed the Mallards only other RBI, going one-for-four with a run scored.<\/p>\n

With the victory, the Mallards kept pace with the Wisconsin Woodchucks atop the Northwoods League South Division second-half standings. Madison and Duluth square off in the final game of their two-game series Monday at 7:05 p.m. <\/p>\n
