The 2006 World Series features a pair of Northwoods League Alumni competing for baseball?s greatest prize. Former Mankato Masher Curtis Granderson is a fixture in centerfield for the Detroit Tigers and former Dubuque Mudpuppy Jeff Weaver was the starting pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals in game 2. <\/p>\n

In game 2 of the World Series Weaver started on the mound for the Cardinals and Granderson started in centerfield for the host Tigers. In three at-bats Granderson went hitless against fellow NWL Alumnus Weaver. This is the first time that two former Northwoods Leaguers have gone head to head in the World Series. The series is tied 1-1 after the first two games. The League recently completed its thirteenth season of play in August, and had 96 of its current players or alumni taken in last June?s Major League Amateur Draft.<\/p>\n
