Wins come in all shapes and forms, but scoring eight runs on two hits in one inning, while down five runs, is simply unprecedented.<\/p>\n

The Madison Mallards took advantage of key Battle Creek Bombers’ mistakes Thursday, assembling a 14-10 victory over the expansion team at the Duck Pond.<\/p>\n

Despite starting pitcher Brian Smith awarding five runs to the Bombers in the top of the first, the Mallards rallied off three first-inning errors and six walks, including three of the first four batters for the Ducks. The inning gave the Mallards an 8-5 advantage, which they would keep for the remainder of the ballgame.<\/p>\n

Battle Creek continued to struggle in the first half of the ballgame, conceding all of Madison’s production through the first five innings of play. The Bombers finished with seven total errors, making only seven of the Mallards 14 runs earned.<\/p>\n

Every Mallard with at least three at-bats recorded a hit, and three Madison players, Randy Molina, Bobby Hubbard and Daniel Webb (pictured), recorded multi-hit performances.<\/p>\n

For a second straight night, Molina found himself with three hits. He has combined for six hits, four runs and three RBIs during Wednesday’s and Thursday’s contests.<\/p>\n

Other big performances included Jordan Comadena (2R, 1H, 3RBI), Hubbard (1R, 2H, 2RBI) and Webb (3R, 2H, 1RBI).<\/p>\n

Smith (W,3-2) somewhat recovered after the first to take the win, despite giving up 14 hits and eight runs (seven earned). Battle Creek hit for a combined 20 hits.<\/p>\n

The teams will square off again Friday at 7:05 p.m. to conclude the Mallards’ four-game homestand before Madison travels to La Crosse for a pair of games. The Mallards will return to Warner Park to host St. Cloud on Monday and Tuesday — both games scheduled for 7:05.<\/p>\n
