{"id":4009,"date":"2014-05-15T20:21:17","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T20:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/madison-mallards\/?p=4009"},"modified":"2014-05-15T20:21:17","modified_gmt":"2014-05-15T20:21:17","slug":"mallards-sign-three-young-pitchers-in-buffett-sharp-and-buckley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/madison-mallards\/2014\/05\/15\/mallards-sign-three-young-pitchers-in-buffett-sharp-and-buckley\/","title":{"rendered":"Mallards Sign Three Young Pitchers in Buffett, Sharp and Buckley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 1.6em\">Madison, Wis. &#8211; The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of right-handed pitchers Tyler Buffett from Oklahoma State University, Sterling Sharp&nbsp;from Eastern Michigan University, and Andrew Buckley from the University of California.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBuffett, a 6&rsquo;1&rdquo;, 196-pound, right-handed pitcher from Oklahoma State University will join the Mallards after his freshman season with the Cowboys.&nbsp; So far, in 2014 he is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA.&nbsp; He has appeared in 11 games, including seven starts.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBuffett is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended Albuquerque Academy.&nbsp; He was named to the 2013 All-West Region second team by Perfect Game and was a 2012 Perfect Game Underclassmen All-American third team selection.&nbsp; He was an all-state performer as a junior and led the team to a state runner-up finish in 2011.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSharp, a 6&rsquo;4&rdquo;, 170-pound freshman right-handed pitcher from Eastern Michigan University will come to Madison following his first season in college.&nbsp; He has made 14 appearances, including seven starts and is 1-6 with a 4.59 ERA.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSharp&nbsp;is originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan and starred at North Farmington High School. He was drafted in the 30<sup>th<\/sup> round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves following his prep career.&nbsp; His senior year he was the seventh best player in Michigan in rankings by Prep Baseball Report.&nbsp; He posted a perfect 7-0 record with a 1.90 ERA and issued just seven walks that season. He went 7-2 with a 1.68 ERA as a sophomore.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBuckley, a 6&rsquo;1&rdquo;, 220-pound freshman right-handed pitcher from the University of California will join the Mallards after his first season in Berkley.&nbsp; He has appeared in eight games this spring and pitched 11.1 innings.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHe starred at De La Salle High School in Concord, California.&nbsp; As a junior he went 5-2 with a 1.71 ERA and 53 strikeouts, including two complete games.&nbsp; He allowed only five extra base hits and held his opponents to a .187 batting average.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Mallards host their season opener on Tuesday, May 27<sup>th<\/sup> at 7:05 pm when they take on the Kalamazoo Growlers.&nbsp; Mallards single game tickets are on-sale now.&nbsp; Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling 608-246-4277, or stopping by the Mallards ticket office.\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n\t###\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>The Madison Mallards&nbsp;are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.
