\n\tMadison, WI – July 27, 2014. Tonight, the Madison Mallards (12-12, 30-27) square off against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (10-11, 27-29) to wrap up their three game home stand at 5:05 pm. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the mound for the Mallards is righty Tyler Buffett, a 6’1”, 195-pound freshman out of Oklahoma State. Buffett is 1-2 on the year with 19 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched, and in his last start he tossed 3.1 innings against the Kenosha Kingfish, allowing five runs on six hits in a 9-5 loss. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHe is scheduled to face Green Bay starter Mike Ellenbest, a 6’4”, 195 pound righty from Saginaw Valley State. Ellenbest holds a 5.70 ERA in eight appearances and gets the call after giving up two runs, one earned, in 0.0 innings of work against the Lakeshore Chinooks on July 17th.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLast night, the Mallards dropped the first game of the two game home series against the Bullfrogs by a score of 6-4. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards scored three runs in the fourth inning, two coming on catcher Austin Barr’s (Stanford) RBI single that scored left fielder Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) and first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida). Regnier went 2-for-3 with one run in his first game back with the Mallards after playing ten games for the club in the beginning of the summer. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMallards righty Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) tossed five innings, giving up six runs on six hits while striking out four in the loss. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards sit 7.5 games back of the Lakeshore Chinooks in the second half South Division standings, and 3.5 games back of the second place Wisconsin Woodchucks and Kenosha Kingfish. In the overall standings, the Mallards are 13 games back of the Chinooks and three games behind the second place Woodchucks. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards can advance to the Northwoods League playoffs by winning the second half of the Northwoods League season, or finishing second in the overall standings.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards travel to play the Wisconsin Woodchucks in a two game series beginning at 6:35 pm tomorrow. After the series, they face the Lakeshore Chinooks in a home and home doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game will be played in Mequon at 12:05 pm, and game two is scheduled for 7:05 pm at the “Duck Pond.” <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWednesday night is Pickett's Paving Madison's Ugliest Driveway Giveaway. Fans can register online to enter the contest. It is also Joey's Song Epilepsy Awareness Night, and the Mallards will wear purple jerseys that are auctioned off during the game. Before the game, there is a UW Health Sports Medicine Developing Swing Fundamentals and Power Clinic from 9 am – 12 pm. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
