\n\tMadison, WI – July 30, 2014. Mallards catcher Austin Barr (Stanford) recorded his second home run of the day, a three run shot in the first inning, to lead the Madison Mallards (14-15, 32-30) over the La Crosse Loggers (8-19, 29-33) by a score of 8-4 in the second game of their home-and-home doubleheader. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to his three run homer, Barr had a two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning and finished 3-for-4 with five RBI and one run. He ended the day with nine RBI after hitting a grand slam in game one. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards scoring started in the first with Barr’s home run, and shortstop Tony Butler (Virginia) then singled in the fourth to drive in left fielder Logan Regnier (Central Michigan). Right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) followed later in the inning with a two RBI single to put the Mallards up 6-0.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Loggers put one on the board in the sixth, but Barr responded in the bottom of the frame with his two RBI double. The Loggers would threaten in the ninth when centerfielder Mike Nadratowski (Grand Valley State) hit a two run blast, but reliever Tim Black (Central Michigan) closed out the Loggers, getting designated hitter Luke Persico (UCLA) to ground into a double play. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMallards starter Rob McDonnell (Illinois) allowed one run on six hits while striking out three in six complete innings of work to get the win. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLoggers righty Andrew Frankenreider (Northern Illinois) tossed five innings, giving up six runs on nine hits in the loss. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier today, the Mallards took game one of their doubleheader against the Loggers by a score of 13-1. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards broke open the scoring in the second inning when left fielder Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) homered, and the Mallards offense followed with four more runs, three from first baseman’s Pete Alonso (Florida) blast later in the inning. They added two in the third, and Barr’s grand slam in the fourth inning brought the score to 11-0. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Loggers responded with a run of their own in the eighth, but in the ninth Alonso hit his second home run of the game to bring the score to 13-1. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMallards starter Devin Over (Connecticut) tossed five shutout innings in his first start, allowing two hits while striking out three in the win.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards stay in Madison tomorrow to begin a two game series against the Kenosha Kingfish at 7:05 pm. It is Summerween at the “Duck Pond”, <\/span>and Forest of Freaks will present a Field of Screams Haunted Stadium with Post-Game Trick-or-Treating on the field. Kids 12 and under in costume get a free standing room only ticket.
