\n\tLa Crosse, WI – August 2, 2014. Tonight, the Madison Mallards (15-16, 33-31) take on the La Crosse Loggers (9-20, 30-34) in La Crosse at 6:05 pm.  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the mound for the Mallards tonight is righty hurler Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State). Buffett is 1-3 on the year with 22 strikeouts in 28.2 innings of work, and in his last start he went 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out three in a 9-2 loss to the Green Bay Bullfrogs. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHe is scheduled to square off against Loggers starter Ty Provencher, a 6’2”, 180-pound righty out of Long Beach State. Provencher is 3-2 on the year with a 3.40 ERA, and in his last start he tossed six innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out nine in a 5-1 loss to the Lakeshore Chinooks. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLast night, Mallards designated hitter Drew Carlile (Bradley) singled to drive in the third baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) in the seventh inning to help the Mallards over the Kenosha Kingfish by a score of 4-3.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMallards reliever Tyler Frohwirth (Minnesota State) earned the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the year. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards broke open the scoring in the second inning with one run, followed by one in each the next two innings. Left fielder Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) scored on second baseman Adam Walton’s (Illinois) infield single in the second, and Carlile added his first RBI in the third to score Alonso. Carlile finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Kingfish added two in the fourth to tie the game, but right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) recorded an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to bring back the lead. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Kingfish would tie the score again in the sixth when Kingfish first baseman Alex Dunlap (Stanford) came in from second on a Mallards throwing error.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tCarlile then singled in the seventh to bring home the go-ahead run. Mallards reliever Tim Black (Central Michigan) recorded his Northwoods League leading 17th save after retiring six of the seven batters he faced in the last two innings of work. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards are now 7.5 games back of the first place Lakeshore Chinooks in the South Division second half standings, and overall they are four games back of the second place Kingfish and Wisconsin Woodchucks.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFor the Mallards to make the playoffs, they must win the second half or finish second in the overall standings as long as Lakeshore holds their second half lead.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Mallards stay in La Crosse tomorrow to wrap up their two game series against the Loggers at 5:05 pm. They return to the “Duck Pond” on Monday to face the Alexandria Blue Anchors at 7:05 pm. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
