\n\t\"jason-goldstein\"Madison, Wis. (June 19) <\/strong>– The Madison Mallards have announced the signing and addition of catcher Jason Goldstein (Illinois) to their 2015 active roster. Goldstein will contribute to the Mallards on a full-time contract for the remainder of the season.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA 6-foot-0 backstop originally from Highland Park, Ill., Goldstein joins the Mallards following a junior collegiate campaign in which he batted .286 with eight home runs and 47 runs batted in across 206 at-bats for the Fighting Illini.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldstein was named to the Big Ten’s All-Freshman team after compiling a .231 batting average over 43 games in 2013. His sophomore 2014 collegiate year concluded with a .316 average and inclusion into the Big Ten’s All-Second Team.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tNo stranger to the Northwoods League, Goldstein posted a .301 average, .789 OPS and 16 runs batted in with the Mallards two summers ago. His 1.21 walk-to-strikeout ratio was one of the best marks of any Madison hitter that year.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldstein’s impressive work at the plate – and behind it – caught the attention of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who drafted him in the seventeenth round of Major League Baseball’s 2015 first-year amateur draft earlier this month.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Madison Mallards are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 22nd season of summer collegiate baseball in 2015, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 120 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Lucas Duda (NYM) and Ben Zobrist (OAK).
