(June 28) <\/strong>– Coming out on the short end of a slim 2-1 final score Saturday night at the Duck Pond, field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (19-14) will look to salvage a series split against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (15-15) with a home victory Sunday afternoon. Today will be Jockey Being Family Superhero Night at Warner Park, featuring a Zimbrick Honda Firefighter Maynard Bobblehead Giveaway. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLast night, the Mallards fell victim to a solid performance by Rafters starting pitcher Jack Riley (Connecticut), who ceded no runs on six hits, no walks and three strikeouts across seven frames. Tony Butler (Madison College) drove home Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for the Mallards’ first run, though that would be the only Madison would tally in the loss. Nate Hoffmann (Middle Tennessee State) received the losing decision on the mound for the Mallards despite grabbing his fourth quality start of the summer (5 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 2 K).\n<\/p>\n

\n\tToday, Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) will look to hold Wisconsin Rapids’ bats at bay when he toes the rubber for his third start of the 2015 season for the Mallards. Beckwith, a 6-foot-0 right-hander from Blythewood, S.C., enters tonight’s contest on the heels of a stellar outing June 22 against Wisconsin, one in which he posted six shutout innings with three strikeouts, one walk and five hits allowed. Overall, the junior-to-be is 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 10:3 K\/BB ratio across his first five appearances (16.2 IP).\n<\/p>\n

\n\tTo counter, the Rafters will call upon right-handed pitcher Jay Peters (Muscatine CC) to tab his first start of the summer this afternoon. The 6-foot-4 native of Randolph, Wis., makes his Northwoods League debut after a sophomore collegiate campaign in which he struck out 51 hitters across 10 outings (50.2 IP) and tabbe two complete games. Peters garnered a 2.01 ERA during his prep career and batted .340 in 51 games with Randolph High School.\n<\/p>\n
