\n\t\"Draft\"The final round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft has come to a close, and a total of 21 former Mallards were selected across 40 rounds. \n<\/p>\n

\n\tMatt Thaiss was selected 16th<\/sup> overall (1st<\/sup> round) by the Los Angeles Angels after completing his junior season at Virginia. The product of Jackson, New Jersey, hit .375 with ten home runs and 59 RBIs while spending time at catcher, first base and designated hitter.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tThaiss captured a flurry of awards in 2016, including a third team All-American selection, a National Player of the Year semifinalist bid and earning a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA member of the 2014 Mallards team, Thaiss hit .286 with a home run and 14 RBIs in 26 games for Madison.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPeter Alonso, another member of the 2014 Mallards squad, was made the 64th<\/sup> overall selection (2nd<\/sup> round) by the New York Mets.  In his junior season at Florida, Alonso hit .368 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring his time in Madison, the first baseman hit .354 with 18 home runs with 53 RBIs across 59 games. Alonso was named the 2014 Northwoods League Most Valuable Player.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the 108th<\/sup> overall selection (4th<\/sup> round), the Cincinnati Reds called upon former Mallard Scott Moss. The left-handed pitcher went 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA during his junior season at Florida. The reliever pitched 20.2 innings for Madison in 2015, striking out 30 and posting a 3.48 ERA.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tTyler Buffett, a right-handed pitcher from Oklahoma State, was picked by the Houston Astros 217th<\/sup> overall (7th<\/sup> round) following his junior season with the Cowboys. Buffett was in Madison for the 2014 season, where he pitched 33.2 innings, struck out 23 and had a 6.41 ERA.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Washington Nationals picked AJ Bogucki 244th<\/sup> overall (8th<\/sup> round) after he finished his junior season at North Carolina. The right-handed pitcher was part of the 2014 and 2015 Mallards squads, where he pitched 43.2 innings across ten starts, struck out 37 and had a 3.91 ERA last season and pitched 48 innings with a 4.50 ERA in 2014.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA member of both the 2013 and 2015 Mallards teams, Illinois’ senior catcher Jason Goldstein was taken 267th<\/sup> overall (9th<\/sup> round) by the Seattle Mariners. Goldstein appeared in 37 games for the Mallards a season ago, hitting .323 with seven double and 17 RBIs while hitting .301 with three home runs and 41 RBIs in 2013.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHever Bueno, a junior right-hander out of Arizona State, was taken 279th<\/sup> overall (9th<\/sup> round) by the Texas Rangers. Bueno played on the 2015 Mallards squad, striking out 25 batters in 18.2 innings pitched while posting a 2.94 ERA.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAnthony Gonsolin, the St. Mary’s slugger that led the team in almost every offensive statistic a season ago, was made the 281st<\/sup> overall selection (10th<\/sup> round) by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Drafted as a pitcher, the senior only pitched 14.1 innings for the Mallards last summer, striking out 15 over that span. As a hitter, he was the team leader in at-bats (247), hits (78), runs (49), home runs (11), RBIs (46) walks (33) and stolen bases (16).\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKirby Snead, another Florida product, was taken 312th<\/sup> overall (10th<\/sup> round) by the Toronto Blue Jays after completing his junior campaign. The lefty made five starts over nine appearances for Madison in 2014, striking out 30 in 28.0 innings and owning a 1.92 ERA.\n<\/p>\n
