MANKATO, MN \u2013 Jayme Scheck, a sophomore pitcher from Drake University is the 16th<\/sup> and final addition to the Habaneros lineup. With just three days away from opening day, the team is gearing up for quite the exciting season ahead and with the final addition to the team, Scheck is adding to that excitement as her skills and accolades speak for themselves.<\/p>\n

In high school, Scheck had quite a fantastic run over her four years as a Cougar. She was a five-year letterwinner for Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School, helped Kennedy win the 2020 Iowa Class 5A State Tournament, and was named the 2021\u00a0Mississippi Valley Conference Softball Player of the Year. She complied a 21-6 record with a 1.91 earned run average and 196 strikeouts her senior season, she was a four-time first-team all-state honoree, a four-time first-team All-MVC selection, and a four-time all-metro and all-district choice. She helped the Cougars make the state tournament three times, including a third-place finish at the 2017 state tournament and helped the team win four MVC championships. She is the school record holder in career strikeouts with 715, posted a 0.67 ERA as a junior, had a 0.95 ERA as a sophomore, 0.61 ERA as a freshman and a 1.61 ERA as an eighth grader, and is a member of the Iowa Premier Fastpitch\u00a0softball club.<\/p>\n

As a redshirt freshman her first year at Drake, she started six games and appeared in 12 total, recorded a 1-3 win-loss record, and notched a 6.63 earned run average. She threw 31.2 innings and allowed 40 hits, 32 runs, 30 earned runs, 19 walks, and struck out 21 opposing batters. This past season, Scheck pitched 69 innings with 41 strikeouts with a 4.87 ERA.<\/p>\n

Jayme Scheck’s addition to the Habaneros lineup brings a wealth of talent and experience to the team. Her impressive high school career, marked by record-setting performances and numerous accolades, showcases her potential to be a formidable force on the mound. At Drake University, she continued to develop her skills, gaining valuable experience and demonstrating her resilience and capability as a pitcher. As the Habaneros gear up for the upcoming season, Scheck’s proven track record and dedication to the sport promise to contribute significantly to the team’s success.<\/p>\n

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women\u2019s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.\u00a0 The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.\u00a0 Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
