{"id":17533,"date":"2026-08-08T21:46:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T02:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/mankato-moondogs\/?p=17533"},"modified":"2026-08-08T21:46:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T02:46:40","slug":"valdivia-secures-final-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/mankato-moondogs\/2026\/08\/08\/valdivia-secures-final-victory\/","title":{"rendered":"Valdivia Secures Final Victory in Walk-off Sacrifice Fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>MANKATO, MINN. \u2013<\/strong> The Mankato MoonDogs took to ISG Field one last time this season to finish the series against the Badlands Big Sticks.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Big Sticks struck first, scoring one run and leading 1-0 after the first inning of play.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">After two scoreless innings, Badlands furthered their lead off of an RBI single from Moses Dokes (Dickinson State University) to make it a 2-0 game.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">After a few more scoreless innings, Sean Griggs hit an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to put the MoonDogs on the board for the first time. It made it a 2-1 game, Badlands still in front.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jonah DeJong (Minnesota State University) tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI triple, making it 2-2.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sean Griggs (Monmouth University) secured the victory for the MoonDogs in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off sacrifice fly. Mankato won the game in a final score of 3-2.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This is the final game at ISG Field this season, as the MoonDogs did not qualify for post-season play.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center\">###<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Northwoods League is the proven leader in developing elite college baseball players. Having completed its\u2019 32nd season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in history with 26 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, over 410 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series Champion Max Scherzer (TOR), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford and World Series Champion Chris Sale (ATL).
