(Mankato, MN)\u2014The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is proud to announce the signing of two position players from Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Fla. Junior middle-infielder Chris Henault and freshman corner-infielder Chris Brown have both committed to play for the MoonDogs in 2006.<\/p>\n
Henault is a junior transfer from Palm Beach CC where he spent the first two years of his collegiate baseball career. Now with the Wildcats, the 5\u201910\u201d 175 pound shortstop has started all 14 games on the season. With three doubles, a homerun, four RBI, and three stolen bases already, Henault is quickly becoming one of the Wildcats biggest offensive threats. Also showing a knack for getting on base, Henault has received 10 free passes, six courtesy of walks and four by being hit by a pitch.<\/p>\n
On the defensive side, he has made only one error this year, showing great range and arm strength on the diamond.<\/p>\n
A native of New Ipswich, N.H., Henault was named as team MVP three times in high school, and also garnered New Hampshire Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2003.<\/p>\n
"Chris is a very smart, hard-nosed, disciplined player. He has great speed and overall athletic ability. We see him receiving significant time up the middle for us this season and also getting on base and scoring a lot of runs,\u201d MoonDogs head coach Jason Nell said.<\/p>\n
Brown at 6\u20190\u201d, 230 pounds, is another imposing force at the plate. As a senior at Atlantic High School in Port Orange, Fla., Brown smashed eight homeruns, with 28 RBI, while hitting .439in 2005. He was named the Volusia County Player of the Year in 2005 and held a career slugging percentage of .800 in high school.<\/p>\n
As a true freshman, Brown has started 13 of 14 games for the Wildcats. Adjusting to the intensity of the college baseball season after a strong showing this fall, Brown has already collected three doubles, four RBI and a wealth of knowledge from the veterans on the team.<\/p>\n
"Chris possesses good power and will be called upon to be in the middle of the lineup for us. He\u2019s a strong corner guy that can drive in runs, and has the potential to lead the team in most offensive categories,\u201d Nell said.<\/p>\n
The MoonDogs begin play on June 1, 2006 against the Waterloo Bucks in Waterloo, IA before returning home for Opening Night in Mankato on Friday, June 2.
