MANKATO, Minn.- In a too close for comfort Thursday night game, the Mankato MoonDogs started the second half off with a 5-4 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Franklin Rogers Park.<\/p>\n

With the win, the first half North Division champions, the MoonDogs, extended their winning streak to ten, a new franchise record. The ‘Dogs were led offensively by Chad Christensen (Nebraska) who went 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs, a triple and one run scored. <\/p>\n

The MoonDogs had a big first inning, driving in three runs, and by the fifth inning the ‘Dogs lead the Cats 5-1. Thunder Bay’s designated hitter, Scott Donley (Indiana) led the Border Cats in a comeback attempt. Donley went 3-5 at the plate, with an RBI, two runs scored and a homerun. The lefty’s homerun in the ninth inning closed the ‘Dogs lead 5-4. <\/p>\n

On the bump, MoonDogs starting pitcher, Davis Henderson (Oklahoma City) recorded his second win of the season. The right-hander tossed 5 1\/3 innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out three Cats to improve his ERA to 5.40. <\/p>\n

The MoonDogs continue to rewrite the record books in 2012, with Patrick Goelz (Oklahoma City) setting a new MoonDogs career record, earning his Northwoods League leading 10th save of the season, and 20th of his career. <\/p>\n

The ‘Dogs will be back in action at Franklin Rogers Friday to finish their series with Thunder Bay at 7:05 p.m. It is soft baseball giveaway night presented by Subway, the first 300 kids will receive a MoonDogs soft baseball.<\/p>\n
