Thunder Bay, Ontario- For the third straight game the Thunder Bay Border Cats battled back from an early deficit to defeat the Mankato MoonDogs, this time by the final score of 6-5 Tuesday night at Port
\nArthur Stadium.<\/p>\n
After a one-out Chase Simpson double, the Dogs took an early 2-0 lead on a John Michael Twichell two-run home run. The lead was short lived though, with the Border Cats piecing together 3 runs over the first three innings to take a 3-2 lead.<\/p>\n
Starter Patrick Goelz worked in and out of trouble all night, lasting just 4 2\/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. The Righty walked two Thunder Bay batters while striking out three.<\/p>\n
The Border Cats took a 6-3 lead before the Dogs started their comeback bid, but Thunder Bay held off the MoonDogs, who were unable to overcome a three-run sixth inning deficit. <\/p>\n
The Mankato MoonDogs scored on a groundout by David Andriese in the eighth inning and an RBI double by Chase Simpson in the ninth, but left the tying run at third to end the game.<\/p>\n
Jerrick Suiter was solid at the plate for the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Suiter went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the sixth inning. <\/p>\n
Zak Miller got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered seven hits. <\/p>\n
Garrett Anderson (0-1) was the game’s losing pitcher in his MoonDogs debut. He walked two batters and allowed one in short work out of the Mankato bullpen.<\/p>\n
The MoonDogs Wrap up their five game road trip against Thunder Bay on Wednesday August 1st, then have their final off day of the 2012 season on Thursday August 2nd. The Dogs return home Monday August 6th to take on the Duluth Huskies. Monday’s game will be MoonDogs Hat giveaway presented by Community Bank and Minnesota 93. The first 500 fans will receive a MoonDogs hat courtesy of Community Bank.<\/p>\n
