The Mankato MoonDogs, a member of the Northwoods League are excited to announce the signings of two pitchers. Matt Young joins the MoonDogs on a full summer contract and Dariel Checo is signed to a temporary contract.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMatt Young, a 6&#039;0&quot;, 180 lb. joins the MoonDogs after finishing his junior year of college at Nevada. A left-handed pitcher, Young has made 12 appearances out of the bullpen so far for the Wolf Pack. In 10.0 innings pitched, he has a 8.10 ERA and given up 10 earned runs, 3 doubles, and 1 home run. In addition Young has recorded 10 strikeouts while issuing 5 walks. Young previously attended Western Nevada College in Carson City, Nevada from 2014-16. He recorded a 2.82 ERA in 2015 with an 8-4 record. In 2016, he posted a 3.05 ERA with a 9-5 record including 96 strikeouts. He also helped his team win the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship in his final year. Young is working on his degree in Kinesiology and enjoys fishing and spending time with teammates in his free time.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDariel Checo is listed as a 6&#039;0&quot;, 205 lb. sophomore who is in his first year for Central Methodist University. He has had a strong season for the Eagles, compiling an 8-1 record in 14 appearances, including 89 strikeouts. He has allowed 29 earned runs, 5 home runs, 26 walks, and 53 hits in 69.2 innings pitched. Last spring Checo made 13 appearances as a freshman for Kirkwood Community College including 4 starts. He ended with a 3-2 record with a 4.98 ERA and 47 strikeouts. In 34.1 innings pitched, Checo allowed 33 hits, 19 earned runs, and 13 walks and averaged 12.32 strikeouts per nine innings. Checo is a native of New York City, New York. He throws and hits right-handed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMoonDogs home opener is scheduled for May 31st at 7:05pm at Franklin Rogers Park.
