Five Northwoods League teams will begin play July 1\u00a0<\/sup>in a regional \u201cMinnesota-Iowa pod\u201d<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Season will run through August 20<\/em><\/p>\n

Rochester, Minn. \u2013 Another \u201cpod\u201d of Northwoods League teams comprised of the Willmar Stingers, Mankato MoonDogs, Rochester Honkers, St. Cloud Rox and the Waterloo Bucks will return for play this summer starting July 1.\u00a0The season for this pod will last until August 20th<\/sup>\u00a0with the team holding the best winning percentage being declared the winner.\u00a0 Working in consultation with state and local officials, the five teams have each developed a plan for safe operation in their respective locations, and the teams look forward to welcoming fans and players back for a much-anticipated season of Northwoods League baseball.<\/p>\n

\u201cContinuing efforts on the part of our Affiliates in Minnesota and Iowa to craft plans for safe operation in their respective locations in consultation with their state and local officials, along with the steps by those officials to open up their communities for larger gatherings, has made it possible to start another \u2018pod\u2019 in the Northwoods League footprint on July first,\u201d said Northwoods League President and Commissioner Gary Hoover.\u00a0 \u201cThis regional pod will bring the special brand of Northwoods League baseball back to those communities, but in a way that is consistent with everyone\u2019s goal of doing so in a safe manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Minnesota-Iowa pod\u2019s schedule of games can be found by going to\u00a0northwoodsleague.com<\/a>\u00a0and clicking on the day-by-day schedule under the schedule header. Fans can then select the MN-IA Region Schedule for all game dates and times.<\/p>\n

The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. Now entering its\u2019 27th<\/sup>\u00a0season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 22 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, over 230 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (WAS), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist (CHC) and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and MLB All-Star Jordan Zimmermann (DET). All league games are viewable live via the Northwoods League website.
