{"id":11908,"date":"2019-04-19T02:00:32","date_gmt":"2019-04-19T02:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/?p=11908"},"modified":"2019-04-19T02:00:32","modified_gmt":"2019-04-19T02:00:32","slug":"honkers-add-midwest-flavor-to-pitching-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/2019\/04\/19\/honkers-add-midwest-flavor-to-pitching-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Honkers Add Midwest Flavor to Pitching Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>ROCHESTER, MN. \u2013 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Rochester Honkers baseball club continues to add to its pitching staff with the addition of two players from the Midwest: Ryan Middendorf and Will Oppenheim. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Middendorf is a 6\u20196\u201d, 205-pound right-handed pitcher from West Chester, Ohio. The junior pitches for Lake Erie College, a NCAA Division II school in northern Ohio. Through eight starts, he has a 3-3 record with a 4.63 earned run average (ERA). He\u2019s tied for the team lead for most innings pitched with 46.2 innings recorded. Middendorf strikeouts almost seven batters for every nine innings he pitches. As a sophomore, he earned a 2-2 record with two saves over 31 innings pitched. In his freshman year, he appeared in 12 games with five starts. He also earned two saves over 35 innings pitched with 25 strikeouts and 10 walks. He played baseball at Lakota East High School before enrolling at Lake Erie. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oppenheim is a 6\u20192\u201d, 185-pound left-handed pitcher from Chicago, Illinois. He\u2019s currently a sophomore at Middlebury College, a NCAA Division III school in western Vermont. He hasn\u2019t yet appeared in a game this season, but he had some success as a freshman. That year, he posted a 2-2 record with a 2.84 ERA. He pitched 19 innings and only allowed 13 hits while striking out 18 batters. In addition, opposing batters achieved only a .200 batting average against him. Before attending Middlebury, he pitched at William Jones College Preparatory High School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Honkers will open up the 2019 campaign on May 28 when they host the St. Cloud Rox on Opening Night at Mayo Field. \u00a0Season tickets and new all-you-can-eat ticket packages are available for purchase right now at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rochesterhonkers.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">www.RochesterHonkers.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or by calling the Honkers front office at 507-289-1170.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Rochester Honkers are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Now in its 26<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 20 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff,\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">over 200\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">former Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball,\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">including three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist (CHC) and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (BOS), Jordan Zimmermann (DET) and Curtis Granderson (MIA).\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All league games are viewable live via the\u00a0<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/connect.emailsrvr.com\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=Md8hbkEjI7D-eltphWRtYyD6k44HY4TRag2yDAokxO5a5iHFlCjWCA..&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fportal.stretchinternet.com%2fnwl%2f\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Northwoods League portal<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
