{"id":5819,"date":"2014-12-11T15:34:01","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T15:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/?p=5819"},"modified":"2014-12-11T15:34:01","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T15:34:01","slug":"honkers-add-another-golden-gopher-from-minnesota-for-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/2014\/12\/11\/honkers-add-another-golden-gopher-from-minnesota-for-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Honkers Add Another Golden Gopher from Minnesota for 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<em>Matt Fiedler joins teammates Connor Schaefbauer and Jordan Smith to the Honkers Squad<\/em><br \/>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>(Rochester, Minn.)<\/strong><strong>&#8212; <\/strong>The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today that University of Minnesota Golden Gopher sophomore Matt Fiedler will join the team next summer.&nbsp; Fiedler joins Gopher teammates Connor Schaefbauer and Jordan Smith to the Honkers this summer.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFiedler is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound outfielder and right-handed pitcher from Eagan, Minn.&nbsp; He finished his freshman season at Minnesota hitting .304 with a .385 on base percentage.&nbsp; He appeared in 21 games, 12 of which were starts.&nbsp; On the mound, Fiedler made eight relief appearances, pitching 15.1 innings and striking out 13.&nbsp; He posted a 2-1 record and batters hit .238 against him.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFiedler graduated from St. Paul Academy High School in 2013.&nbsp; He was a 2013 Mr. Baseball finalist, a Minnesota 2A Player of the Year and Section 4AA Player of the year.&nbsp; He hit .439 as a senior while also posting a 0.52 ERA with 39 strikeouts.&nbsp; He was also a member of the East squad for the 2013 Play Ball! Minnesota High School All-Star Series.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Rochester Honkers 22nd season begins on May 26<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;when the Mankato MoonDogs bark into Mayo Field for a 7:05pm first pitch.&nbsp; Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available. Call the Rochester Honkers office at 507-289-1170 for more information.&nbsp; The Honkers are also looking for host families for the 2015 season and ask all interested parties to call the business office for more information.\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n\t###\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>The Rochester Honkers are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 22<sup>nd <\/sup>season of summer collegiate baseball in 2015, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (DET) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (BOS) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
