\n\tRochester Honkers Team Up with Olmsted Medical Center for Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Services<\/strong><\/u>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRochester, Minn. (Feb. 9, 2015)—<\/strong>The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods collegiate summer baseball league, recently named Olmsted Medical Center (OMC) as the team’s official provider of sports medicine and athletic training services.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAs part of a three-year agreement with the Rochester Honkers, OMC’s certified athletic trainers (ATCs) will provide evaluation and initial treatment of sports-related injuries to Honkers players during home games beginning with the 2015 season. OMC’s ATCs also will offer Honkers players in-services on preventive-medicine topics like avoiding concussions, proper nutrition and hydration, and avoiding chronic sports-related injuries.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t“We are excited to team up with OMC and bring our sports medicine and athletic training under one umbrella,” said Rochester Honkers General Manager Dan Litzinger. “By doing this we have streamlined to help better serve not only the administrative side, but more importantly the overall care and experience for our players.”\n<\/p>\n

\n\t“This new partnership was built on the solid foundation of mutual support and respect that we and our hometown baseball team have built over time,” said OMC sports medicine provider Matt Thompson, MD. “We’re expanding our involvement in the team’s health and wellness far beyond the support we’ve provided in years past.” Dr. Thompson currently serves as a primary sports medicine physician for Rochester Community and Technical College's athletics programs and is a team sports medicine physician for Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers team.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOMC began offering expansive services to southeast Minnesota’s athletes of all sports and ages in January 2014 at its $3.3-million Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance facility in northwest Rochester. The facility and services quickly have grown popular among athletes in the region.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOlmsted Medical Center<\/a>, a not-for-profit organization, has been southeastern Minnesota’s hometown healthcare provider since 1949. Our 100+ clinicians and nearly 1,000 healthcare professionals serve at 18 locations, including two Rochester-based multi-specialty clinics, a Level-IV trauma hospital with walk-in urgent care and 24-hour emergency room, two FastCare retail clinics in Rochester Shopko stores, a Skyway clinic in downtown Rochester, and 10 community branch clinics. Olmsted Medical Center has more than 20 specialties and is best known for its convenient, quality personal primary care.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Rochester Honkers 22nd season begins on May 26, 2015, when the Mankato MoonDogs visit Mayo Field for a 7:05 PM first pitch. Season tickets, bonus books, suites, and patios are now available. \n\tThe are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 22nd <\/sup>season of summer collegiate baseball in 2015, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 120 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (BOS) and Ben Zobrist (OAK).
