{"id":6408,"date":"2015-03-19T14:59:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-19T14:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/?p=6408"},"modified":"2015-03-19T14:59:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T14:59:08","slug":"honkers-sign-two-players-to-their-temporary-roster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/2015\/03\/19\/honkers-sign-two-players-to-their-temporary-roster\/","title":{"rendered":"Honkers Sign Two Players To Their Temporary Roster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000\">(Rochester, Minn.)<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color: #000000\"><b>\u2014<\/b> The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of catcher Collin Leif and pitcher Peter Resnick to their temporary roster for the 2015 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Leif is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior catcher at the University of Nebraska Omaha.\u00a0 Currently the Bemidji, Minn. native is hitting .171 but posts a .990 fielding percentage, committing only one error on the season.\u00a0 Leif has started 14 of 18 total games played on the season with 87 putouts and 13 assists. As a sophomore, Leif appeared in 42 games, starting 33 and hit .180.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Leif is teammate of returning Rochester Honkers outfielder, Alex Schultz, who is hitting .329 with six RBIs and a perfect seven for seven in stolen bases.\u00a0 Schultz has started every game for the 10-8 Mavericks who welcome North Dakota State this weekend for a three-game Summit League conference set in Omaha.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Resnick is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior right-handed pitcher from Northbrook, Ill.\u00a0 He currently hasn\u2019t pitched at Bradley due to a nerve issue that was surgically cleared up, but has made a full recovery.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cPeter is fine and has been throwing bullpens and is cleared to go,\u201d said Bradley Pitching Coach Larry Scully.\u00a0 \u201cWhen we start conference play in two weeks, Peter is the first guy out of the bullpen.\u00a0 He\u2019s a good one and we need him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Resnick was one of Bradley\u2019s top middle relievers his first two seasons.\u00a0 He has come out of the bullpen 30 of his 34 total mound appearances, posting a 3.99 career ERA and 38 total strikeouts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Temporary players are guaranteed 10 days with the team with a maximum stay of the end of the first half, depending on roster size.\u00a0 Alex Schultz started off as a temporary player last summer for Rochester, and was intra-league waived at the end of the first half, but was able to return with a full-time contract when the team lost a player the next day and he cleared waivers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Rochester Honkers 22nd season begins on May 26th when the Mankato MoonDogs bark into Mayo Field for a 7:05pm first pitch.\u00a0 Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available. Playing its 22<sup>nd <\/sup>season of summer collegiate baseball in 2015, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 120 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (BOS) and Ben Zobrist (OAK).
