{"id":6442,"date":"2015-03-25T14:12:56","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T14:12:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/?p=6442"},"modified":"2015-03-25T14:12:56","modified_gmt":"2015-03-25T14:12:56","slug":"mark-contreras-earns-big-west-player-of-the-week-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/2015\/03\/25\/mark-contreras-earns-big-west-player-of-the-week-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Contreras Earns Big West Player of the Week Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>(Rochester, Minn.)\u2014<\/b>Mark Contreras from UC Riverside and a 2015 Rochester Honker was just name Big West Player of the Week for games played from March 16-22.<\/p>\n<p>Contreras notched Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week accolades as he drove in nearly half of the Highlanders&#8217; runs in a series victory over Tulane.\u00a0 He batted .545 (6 for 13) with six RBI as the Highlanders took two out of three from a Green Wave squad that came into the weekend leading the nation in ERA. He had at least one RBI in all three games.<\/p>\n<p>The left fielder went 1-for-3 with an RBI in UCR&#8217;s series-opening 2-1 victory on Friday.\u00a0 He banged out a pair of doubles among his three hits in Saturday&#8217;s 6-5 loss, scoring once and knocking in a pair.\u00a0 In Sunday&#8217;s rubber game, Contreras notched his second multi-hit game of the series with two hits and three RBI in the 6-2 triumph. His first RBI proved to be the game winner.\u00a0 He improved his batting average from .278 to .323 and extended his hitting streak to five consecutive games. Tulane has been ranked as high as No. 25 nationally this season.<\/p>\n<p>Contreras joins fellow UC Riverside teammate Drake Zarate to the Honkers this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Rochester Honkers 22nd season begins on May 26th when the Mankato MoonDogs bark into Mayo Field for a 7:05pm first pitch.\u00a0 Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available. Playing its 22<sup>nd <\/sup>season of summer collegiate baseball in 2015, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 120 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (BOS) and Ben Zobrist (OAK).
