{"id":7431,"date":"2016-01-27T19:31:20","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T19:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/?p=7431"},"modified":"2016-01-27T19:33:22","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T19:33:22","slug":"honkers-sign-double-threat-from-hawaii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/2016\/01\/27\/honkers-sign-double-threat-from-hawaii\/","title":{"rendered":"Honkers Sign Double-Threat from Hawaii"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong>(Rochester, Minn.)<\/strong><strong>&mdash;<\/strong> The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of Alex Fitchett, a redshirt junior outfielder from the University of Hawaii.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFitchett is a 6-foot-4, 225-pounder from El Dorado Hills, California who comes to Hawaii after playing one season at Cosumnes River College.His finished his redshirt sophomore season there hitting .354 with three home runs, eight doubles, 37 RBIs and 29 runs scored.He was named the team MVP and earned first-team all-Big 8 Conference honors.The big left-hander also pitched nine innings.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBefore CRC, he played his freshman season of 2013 at Sacramento State, redshirted as a sophomore in 2014 and then moved on to CRC.A 2012 graduate of Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, Calif., Fitchett was a four-year letterman in baseball.He hit .283 as a senior, with four doubles, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored.He also pitched 45 innings, posting a 5-3 record with a 3.73 ERA and 56 strikeouts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Rochester Honkers 23<sup>rd<\/sup> season begins on May 31<sup>st<\/sup> when the team travels to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to take on the Express.&nbsp; The following night, Wednesday, June 1<sup>st<\/sup>, the Honkers battle the Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available. The 22-year old summer collegiate league is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 140 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (DET), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Lucas Duda (NYM) and Ben Zobrist (CHC).
