{"id":7639,"date":"2016-05-20T16:06:51","date_gmt":"2016-05-20T16:06:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/?p=7639"},"modified":"2016-05-20T16:14:34","modified_gmt":"2016-05-20T16:14:34","slug":"three-temporary-players-added-to-honkers-roster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rochester-honkers\/2016\/05\/20\/three-temporary-players-added-to-honkers-roster\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Temporary Players added to Honkers&#8217; Roster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>Honkers add two left-handed pitchers and an infielder to temporary contracts<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>(Rochester, Minn.) &ndash; <\/strong>The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of left-handed pitchers Jesse Ellefson of Montevallo (Ala.) and Carter Lilly of Corpus Christi (Tex.) and infielder Christopher Scalisi of University of Redlands (Calif.), to temporary contracts for the 2016 Northwoods League season.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEllefson, a freshman from North Fort Myers, Fla., has a 0-0 record for Montevallo and a 5.40 ERA. He has pitched 6.2 innings in nine appearances for the Falcons, with eight walks and two strikeouts.&nbsp; Ellefson has not allowed a run in his last two appearances.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLilly, a freshman from Helotes, Texas, has two appearances for the Islanders, walking two batters, and striking out one in one inning of work. In a game against University of Texas &ndash; San Antonio, Lily went a full inning without giving up a hit or run, with one strikeout.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tScalisi, a junior from Woodland Hills, Calif., has played in 35 games for the Bulldogs this season with a .392 average, while collecting 44 RBIs, scoring 34 runs and taking 19 walks. In his last game against Occidental (Los Angeles), he went 3 for 5 in a 6-5 loss.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Rochester Honkers 23<sup>rd<\/sup> season begins on May 31<sup>st<\/sup> when the team travels to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to take on the Express.&nbsp; The following night, Wednesday, June 1<sup>st<\/sup>, the Honkers battle the Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available. Playing its 23rd season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, 150 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (DET), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Lucas Duda (NYM) and Ben Zobrist (CHC).
