\n\tKENOSHA, Wis. –<\/strong> The Rockford Rivets (16-14) lost Game 1 of a scheduled double-header with the Kenosha Kingfish (20-11), 6-3, at Simmons Field Friday night. Game 2 was rained out and postponed.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tJack Granath (Davenport) got the start for the Rivets and gave up six runs (five earned) in four innings of work, taking the loss, snapping his streak of wins in four consecutive starts. On the flip side, Kingfish starter Michael Costanzo (Austin Peay) worked five innings, allowing three runs with seven strikeouts, and got the win.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Rivets scored first in the game, however, on a solo home run from Bren Spillane (Illinois) with two outs in the top of the first inning. Spillane’s home run, his first of the season, extended his hitting streak to nine games.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBut after that, the Kingfish put up four runs in the second inning and two more the third inning, on a Tim Millard (Dallas Baptist) two-run home run, to take a 6-1 lead. The Rivets added two runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles from Trevor Paradoski (Texas Tech) and Hunter Feduccia (LSU-Eunice), to cut the Kenosha lead to three runs, but that’s as close as Rockford would get.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe second game of today’s double-header will be made up as part of a double-header on August 7 in Kenosha. The Rivets return home to play the Lakeshore Chinooks 6:35 p.m. Saturday.\n<\/p>\n
