\n\tLOVES PARK, IL. – <\/strong>After winning five straight games, the Rivets finally dropped a game. The Madison Mallards (30-23, 11-7) ended the Rivets’ five-game win streak with plenty of scoring as they defeated Rockford (29-23, 12-6) by a final score of 11-4 on Wednesday afternoon.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Rivets looked like they were picking right back up where they left off, scoring right away in the 1st<\/sup> inning. Brian Klein (Texas Tech) skied a ball over the center field fence with a man on base for the early 2-0 lead.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tJon Laird (Tiffin) looked good early on, giving up just one run in his first three innings of work. It was in the 4th<\/sup> when he ran into trouble. Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) led off with a single and reached third after a David Vinsky (Northwood) double. Andrew Baker (Florida) then brought Armstrong home with a single, and Thomas Smart (Oakton) added two more RBIs in the inning for the 4-2 Madison lead.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t
\n\tThe Mallards weren’t done. Zac Taylor (Illinois) hit a bloop single to center field off Josh Petersen (Ohio) to score two runs, giving Madison the 6-2 lead in the 6th<\/sup>.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRockford came back with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Hutchinson (Illinois State) scored off a sacrifice grounder from Klein, and Hunter Feduccia (LSU) was able to make it home as the Mallards committed a fielding error to cut the Madison lead to 6-4.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, the Mallards got three more runs in the 8th<\/sup> and two in the 9th<\/sup> to pull away from the Rivets. Laird (1-1) took the loss as Rockford as they make their way to Madison for the second game of a double header.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRockford’s next home game will be on Friday, July 28th<\/sup> for a 6:35 p.m. game against the Lakeshore Chinooks. You won’t want to miss this game – there will be a post game fireworks show!\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Rockford Rivets are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League, which will play its 24th<\/sup> season of summer collegiate baseball in 2017. The Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 20 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, 180 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including two-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (Washington Nationals), two-time World Champion Ben Zobrist (Chicago Cubs) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (Boston Red Sox), Jordan Zimmermann (Detroit Tigers), Curtis Granderson (New York Mets) and Lucas Duda (Mets).
