Bright spots in the offense were the two hits from Hal Hughes and Parker Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper Cain picked up the loss for the Rivets despite striking out seven and only allowing two earned runs. This adds to the impressive season by Cain, in which he was just announced the starter for the 2018 NWL all-star game next week in Kalamazoo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCooper [Cain] did really well until the fourth inning,\u201d Rivets\u2019 Manager Brian Smith said, \u201cThen he just got tired and the defense couldn\u2019t make plays behind him. He is going to get rewarded by starting the all-star game next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rivets and Dock Spiders play again tomorrow at 6:35 PM at Herr-Baker Field.<\/p>\n<p>The Rockford Rivets are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.
